Puppies

Dogs are exceptionally good at adapting to our domestic lifestyles and it quite amazing that we can share our lives and homes  so successfully with a completely different species. It's important to remember that communication is a two way street, and whilst we strive to teach our puppies what is and what is not acceptable in our homes, we must also learn how puppies communicate to us, for example what they enjoy, what worries them, when they need something, and when they are scared. This allows us to support them, advocate for them, and help them grow their confidence, resilience, and deep trust in their relationship with us. This is what puppy classes are all about - setting up your puppy for a lifetime of success as a well integrated and much loved family member .

Puppy Classes

I teach Puppy School classes for puppies under 20 weeks of age.  The class I run is very small, limited to only three puppies, ensuring a great experience for both you and your puppy. Together, you will learn all the following and much more:

Dog Behaviour

Living with a dog with behavioural problems can be emotionally draining and upsetting for all involved. It affects so many aspects of our lives. Seeking the advice of a behaviourist is sometimes seen as the last resort, after several failed attempts with various trainers, but it doesn't have to be that way. As a qualified behaviourist as well as an accredited trainer, I'm trained to get to the very heart the underlying cause of your dog's behaviour and help find long-term resolution. This is preferable to simply  addressing the symptoms, which can be multiple and varied.  If you are struggling with any of the following kinds of problems, please get in touch to see how i can help, by clicking the enquiry form below.

Aggression towards family members and resource guarding

Reactivity towards dogs e.g. on walks

Repetitive behaviours like shadow chasing

Fears and phobias

Sound sensitivity (e.g. fireworks)

Separation related problems

What happens in a dog behaviour consultation?

In a behaviour consultation I explore the nature of the problem in depth. I review your dog's Clinical History from your Vet and have a detailed discussion with you and your family about your dog's behaviour problems and the all the contexts in which they occur. I might also ask for videos of your dog's behaviour. I assess the original cause, identify the situations that maintain the problem, and I create a tailor-made plan for change, based on your needs and goals. The plan typically involves careful environmental management, providing for both your dog's emotional and physical needs, and positive reinforcement training which I will guide you through.  I don't rely on any single 'branded' training technique associated with a particular school of training, I might use several. I will choose what is best for you and your pet, because every pet is individual. However, all training is rewards based and I do not use any aversive techniques (shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, rattle-cans etc). All behaviour cases are taken on approval from your vet. (Please read here to understand why.)
